Peridot is a variety of the mineral olivine, and as that mineral’s name suggests, it comes in one colour – a rich, slightly yellowish green, with only minor variations. Peridot’s vivid colour was said to have a healing effect, which helped open the heart, and bring comfort in periods of depression and sadness. This antique circular-cut peridot shows an almost electric, bright green, which is beautifully set in a delicate Belle Epoque platinum mount set with antique circular-cut diamonds in stippled millegrain borders. The birthstone for August, this would make a wonderful birthday gift for anyone with an August birthday.
